Giving Tuesday: The Healing Power of Art

Thank you so much for your generosity with our #GivingTuesday campaign. We’re so close to our goal with only days to go. Please help us get there! Donate now.

RVA’s (Rendez-Vous Arts) participants were disappointed when we had to cancel our weekly art classes. For many of them it is time to disconnect, relax, focus on something else and let out their creativity. It is an important part of their week in maintaining mental health.

“I was so happy when I got the art supplies because I hadn’t painted in two weeks and couldn’t wait to get started on my projects”, says Alain-Marc Gerbaux, who regularly attends the art classes.

Painting can take one away from their problems or issues, and even if just for a couple of hours, it can have a huge impact. “When I called everyone who normally comes to our centre to participate to offer some art supplies to paint from home, many of the participants were so relieved”, says Tracey Aitken, RVA Coordinator for WICA.

Normally all of our RVA classes are supported by Volunteer art coaches who generously give of their time each week for a couple of hours. During Covid-19 some of our art coaches have been volunteering to create short video art challenges that we have been posting to our Facebook page each Tuesday and sharing and inviting everyone, including non-RVA participants, to post pictures of their artwork.

“Thx to West Island Citizen Advocacy for the great art supplies during these hard times” says Alain-Marc Gerbaux.  “I’ve been with WICA for about a year now and they’ve helped me a lot.”

Please help us continue our mission by making a donation through our Giving Tuesday Campaign.
